Nelson's Journey team jumping at seaside

It’s National Volunteers’ Week on 1-7 June 2020 and now is a great time to celebrate all that is done by volunteers across the country. Dialogue supports numerous charities, including local charities Norfolk Mind and Nelson’s Journey, both with fundraising and with volunteered hours, making the most of an extra day’s holiday dedicated to volunteering within our communities. Now we are proud to share that the Youth Panel and young volunteers at Norfolk charity Nelson’s Journey have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of their work.

Dialogue Art Director shares expertise

Dialogue has raised more than £10,000 for Nelson’s Journey over the years and our Art Director, Richard Berry, is a volunteer supporting the activities of the award-winning group of young people.

Nelson’s Journey supports children and young people in Norfolk who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life. As part of ensuring their therapeutic support is effective, Nelson’s Journey formed a young volunteers scheme in 2012 to ensure the voices of young people were at the centre of all that they do. Many Youth Panel members and young volunteers have been bereaved themselves and received support from the charity.

The Youth Panel and young volunteers are empowered to take forward ideas and projects they feel would benefit children like them. Richard uses his professional skills to help support the young people through this process. With Richard’s guidance, the young people have learned graphic design skills, the importance of consistency in branding and created engaging product identity.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest accolade available in the voluntary sector. Dialogue is incredibly proud to support such an inspiring group of young people and also of Richard, whose passion for developing the skills of young people ensures they have his expertise available.
